MSc Mechanical Engineering

1 semester or 4 months of thesis/project

MPhil Mechanical Engineering

2 semesters of taught courses; and

2 semesters of thesis/research

* Students who want to pursue MPhil should complete all taught courses in the first year with minimum CWA of 65% or above before they can qualify.

Entry Requirements

A good first degree in Mechanical Engineering or an allied discipline from a recognised university. Candidates will be expected to hold a First or Second Upper Class degree. The Departmental Board may consider candidates with Second Lower Class degree in special cases through an interview in line with the requirements of the School of Graduate Studies of the University.

Requirements for Graduation

(a) MSc: A candidate must complete a minimum of forty-eight (48) credits including thirty-six (36) taught course work credits and twelve (12) thesis credits.

(b) MPhil: A candidate must complete a minimum of sixty (60) credits including thirty-six (36) taught course work credits and twenty-four (24) thesis/research credits.

(c) A student should obtain a minimum mark of 50% in all taught courses and a Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of at least 55%.

(d) A student should successfully defend the project/thesis at an oral examination in accordance with the requirements of the School of Graduate Studies.
