Welcome Message by HOD

Mechanical Eng.
Prof. Albert Sunnu
Head, Dept. Mechanical Engineering

Welcome to the department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), one of the top Mechanical Engineering programmes in Africa with a nearly 60-year history. The department currently offers Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in ME. The department offers five, four-year undergraduate degree programmes leading to the award of B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering, B.Sc. Marine Engineering, B.Sc. Aerospace Engineering, B.Sc. Industrial Engineering and BSc Automobile Engineering. The department also runs a two-year top-up programme for HND holders in collaboration with the Institute of Distance Learning in KNUST. We also offer graduate programmes in Mechanical Engineering (M.Sc. and M.Phil.) and Renewable Energy Technologies (MSc and M.Phil.). The graduate programmes have specializations in Thermo-fluids and Energy Systems Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Design and Manufacturing, and Renewable Energy Technologies. Our research areas address pressing needs of the society. Faculty members in KNUST’S department of Mechanical Engineering work on thematic areas such as fluid mechanics (Aerodynamics, fluids and thermal engineering), mechanical design & manufacturing, mechatronics, biomechanics, combustion, dynamics and control, automotive engineering, materials & structurers. The ME department takes pride in its education efforts especially in its ‘Design, Build and Test” pedagogical approach which is very common with our undergraduate projects. The Academic staff strength currently stands at twenty-six (26): three professors, eight Senior Lecturers, fourteen Lecturers and one Technical Instructor. The ME department has thrived over the years and it is determined to making significant contributions to research, education, community service and to solve other societal challenges. We look forward to being part of future technological breakthroughs and shaping the future of Mechanical Engineering. We hope you will join us.

You are welcome!!
